Govt. sets up stringent targets for indigenization of LCA Tejas Mk-1A jets

After being given the nod to the HAL manufacturing of 83 Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) TEJAS Mk-1 and Mk1-A, the Government has now set up stringent targets with regards to the indigenization of the combat aircraft. Presently, only 50% of the jet is made in India, while the engine and the AESA radar come from the US and Israel, respectively. Further, the aircraft has around 344 systems fitted in it and 210 systems are indigenous and 134 of them are imported. By the time, the first aircraft gets produced by HAL, it is targeted that the imported systems will be reduced to approximately 80%.
