India to soon commence with higher defence management reforms

The Indian Defence Ministry is expected to start with the second stage of reforms in higher defence management from next two to three months. As of now, the military leadership is in the process of finalizing the outlines of at least two joint theatre commands to be formed this year. It has been reported that the Maritime Theatre Command (MTC) will be possibly headed by a Vice Admiral level Naval officer and will include the existing Eastern and Western Naval Commands, a scaled-down Andaman and Nicobar Command, the Southern Air Command and two brigades of the Indian Army, capable of carrying out amphibious operations, besides two squadrons of the Indian Air Force’s maritime strike aircraft.
