The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) on 23 Nov 2021 accorded approval to Capital Acquisition proposals of the Armed Forces valued at around Rs 7236 Crores. These includes: -
- Procurement of GSAT-7C satellite and ground hubs worth Rs 2236 Crores under ‘Make in India’ category for the Indian Air Force (IAF) for real-time connectivity of software defined radios. The project envisages complete design, development and launching of satellite in India.
- Approval for manufacturing 7.5 lakh AK-203 assault rifles for the Indian Army under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The deal worth Rs 5000 Crores is part of the Inter-Government Agreement signed with Russia, under which the first 70,000 rifles will be off-the-shelf, after which the transfer of technology for the guns to be made in India will begin.
