CCS Clears Barak Missile purchase

The Indian Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) has given the final nod to the long-delayed procurement of Barak-I missiles for warships of Indian Navy. Total of 262 missiles worth Rs 880 crore are to be acquired to arm the Israeli Barak-I anti-missile defence (AMD) systems. Formerly India has installed the Barak AMD systems, on aircraft carrier INS Viraat, guided-missile destroyers like INS Mysore and Shivalik-class stealth frigates, which are designed to intercept and destroy incoming enemy missiles at a range of 9-km.
