MoD issues fresh tender for 20 Hawk aircraft

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has issued a fresh tender for buying 20 BAE manufactured Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer aircrafts for the Indian Air Force's Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT). The tender worth Rs 2000 crores has been issued to the DPSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) which will license-produce these aircrafts in its facility in Bangalore. With this order, the number of Hawks ordered by the IAF would be 143. India had first signed a deal for 66 Hawks in 2004 and then about two years back, placed an order for 57 more of which 17 would be used by the Indian Navy for its training purposes.
