India’s “Make in India” campaign has opened the market for Indian private defence manufacturers in India. It has marked the $20 billion market opportunity for private sector for over the next five years. Deals which are already signed includes - India’s L&T is building hull for a nuclear submarine, bullet proof jackets for the Indian Army to be produced by Gujarat Forensic Science Limited. Moreover private companies are tying up with foreign manufacturers to bid for the tenders. Also there are many deals lined up to be finalised soon, it include: transport aircraft for the Indian Airforce where the Tata group has shown interest, corvettes for the Navy for which Pipvav defence and ABG shipyards are likely to bid, 155 mm Howitzers deal, 100 of which will be bought off the shelf and at least 350 more made in India with an Indian firm.
