India’s Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) has recently developed an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). The cost of development is expected to be around Rs 35 crores. Further, the DRDO has also undertaken a feasibility study for the development of different types of AUV platforms that could be used for a variety of roles, like surveillance and mine counter measures etc.
