DRDO to develop short-range Surface-to-Air Missile for Navy

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) have begun the work on the plan to develop short-range surface-to-air missile (SRSAM) for Navy. The project is independent of the DRDO's and the French firm MBDA's joint missile programme. Currently the project is in the initial stages. This will have a range of 25-30 kilometers and can be used by both the Army and the Air Force. The new missile will be a canister based and with vertically-launched system suitable for naval ships. They can be placed hidden in the ship's dock and escape enemy surveillance radars.
