The Indian Ministry of Shipping has urged Ministry of Defence to order vessels from domestic firms, instead of going abroad for the requirement. The Indian Navy has various requirements and the order book includes submarines, frigates, destroyers, aircraft carriers, offshore patrol vessels, corvettes, oceanographic and research vessels, etc, that runs into over $92 billion (about Rs 5.7 lakh crore). The aim is to save shipbuilding industry that is running into losses and to promote entire industry, not just public sector entities but also private companies too.
