Indian Army facing ammunition shortage

Indian Army is facing the Ammunition shortage, as reported by the India’s Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in his report. Army’s present inventory will barely last 20 days of intense fighting, whereas they needs to build up its war wastage reserves for 40 days of intense fighting. Also, in 50% of the total types of ammunition, the holding was critical — insufficient for even 10 days of fighting. According to the report, Rs. 3,578 crores worth ammunition is lying in segregated condition after being involved in accidents, Rs. 1,618 crores worth ammunition is rejected by Army due to defectives and Rs. 814 crores worth ammunition has declared unserviceable due to poor quality, while some ammunition awaiting repairs.
