Govt awards 56 defence licences to private firms

The Indian Government has awarded a record 56 defence manufacturing permits to private sector entities in just one year of its tenure. The permits are the first step in the process to enable private firms to set up production units for major military equipment. Some of the private firms that have been granted defence permits include Mahindra, Tata and Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Company (PDOC) and also subsidiary companies like Mahindra Telephonics Integrated Systems and Tech Mahindra Ltd. Besides the established players, a number of new small firms have also been issued permits which include Dynamatic Technologies, MKU among others.
