Army refuses US offer of Raven mini-UAV

The Indian Army has refused the Raven RQ-11 mini-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) being offered by the United States. The reason cited is that it does not meet the technical parameters or General Staff Qualitative Requirements (GSQRs) laid down by the Army for the hand-launched spy drones that are to equip all its 382 infantry battalions, as also counter-insurgency force, Rashtriya Rifles and mechanized units. Raven was one of the four “pathfinder projects” identified for co-development and co-production under the bilateral defence trade and technology initiative (DTTI) for joint production of military technologies.
