India is planning to use Kaveri derivative engine ("dry" engine) to power its Unmanned Combat Aircraft. The aero engine developed by DRDO was originally intended for the indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) but could not achieve the required thrust to power LCA. The total expenditure incurred on development of Kaveri engine so far has been Rs 2,101 crore
