India has requested United States for extension of the agreed price in a $3.1 Billion deal to buy 22 Attack and 15 Heavy-Lift helicopters for the Indian Air Force. India seeks to purchase 22 Apache helicopters with option of purchasing 11 more for about $2 billion; the Chinook deal is for 15 helicopters with the option of buying six more for $1.1 billion, both manufactured by Boeing. Both Apache and Chinooks were selected in a competitive bid over the Russian Mi-28N Night Hunter and the Mi-26 Halo heavy lift helicopter in 2012. While, the US response is still awaited, the acquisition is expected to be taken up by the Cabinet Committee of Security (CCS) next week.
