Indian suppliers have for the first time given their samples to the Indian Army for trials in five items of Siachen and Super High Altitude clothing. Basically, these clothes are designed to allow soldiers deployed in areas beyond an altitude of 14,000 feet having extreme climatic conditions and environmental factors. The requirement is of 55 Nos of items per set. As of now 5 samples have been submitted. The trial report shall be available to the defence ministry by April and based on technical evaluation and lab testing by DGQA, the suppliers will be finalised. This time the Ministry is not going for generic specifications, but going by user approved samples.
