India all set to join “Missile Technology Control Regime”

The United States has supported India’s entry for membership for joining the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) as well as the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG). The other members of the MTCR have also now agreed to admit India into the group. The deadline for 34-nation group members to object to India’s admission had already expired. The entry will pave way for India to procure high-end missile technology and surveillance systems by leading manufacturers. The development could give a fillip to 'Make-in-India' push and can help the nation become an arms exporter for the first time. MTCR is an informal and voluntary anti-proliferation group of 34 nations that aims to limit the spread of ballistic missiles and other unmanned delivery systems that could be used for chemical, biological, and nuclear attacks.India has also applied to join the NSG, where Mexico has supported India’s efforts in joining the group.
