India to test Anti-Ballistic Missile Defence System

India is all set to test Nirbhay - an anti-ballistic missile defence system, as well as Astra - its first indigenously developed subsonic long-range cruise missile. Developed by DRDO, the organisation will emulate an enemy attack through firing a missile from a naval ship. The interceptor will then destroy the weapon mid-air through an automated process. The missiles will get intercepted at range of more than 100 km away so that damage to cities can be prevented. The 3.8 meter Astra is capable of carrying a 15-kg high explosive warhead.
