MoD may seek fresh contract for LPDs

The Government will be seeking fresh commercial bids from Private sector firm-   L&T and Reliance Defence and Engineering (RDEL), who have  cleared financial, technical capacity and assessment last year and now eligible to undertake defence projects for the 4 Landing Platform Docks (LPD). The worth of the project is about Rs 20,000-crore. On the basis of L1 (lowest bidder), decision will be taken. The RDEL is most likely to collaborate with DCNs of France and Navanita of Spain. Each LPD will approximately cost Rs 6,000 crore and they are expected to be delivered over the next 10 years. This could be first big project going to Private sector as the Govt shipyard are overloaded with over 9 years workload.
