IAF Fighter Plane

India requires about 400 single-and double-engine combat aircraft and was progressing the procurement in separate projects under the Make in India initiative to build single-engine and twin-engine planes in the country. IAF was progressing procurement of about 114single-engine fighter planes worth about $15 billion, while Navy seeking  for the 57 planes could be worth about $10 billion. Defence ministry is of the view that it should not proceed with the single-engine fighter aircraft programme, and initiate a global programme where all fighter aircraft manufacturers would be invited through a competitive tender and the winner would be chosen after extensive trials. https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/govt-scraps-single-engine-fighters-plan-asks-iaf-to-go-for-wider-competition/articleshow/63034958.cms
