Navy to Get Four Stealth Frigates

India and Russia have finalised a contract for four new stealth frigates for Indian Navy, worth above Rs 20,000 crore ($3 billion). Delivery will begin within four years of signing the contract. These new Krivak-III frigates will have the same engines and armament configuration as Yantar’s last three frigates – INS Teg, Tarkash and Trikand and includes the vaunted BrahMos anti-ship and land attack missile. India intended to build all four Krivak III frigates in GSL under “Make in India”. However, India is buying two frigates that had already part-built at Yantar for the Russian Navy, which then backed away for lack of funds. The other two frigates will be built at Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) with technology and designs transferred by Yantar. http://www.business-standard.com/article/economy-policy/navy-agrees-to-buy-four-russian-frigates-for-3-bn-118022600021_1.html
