Russia will be pushing hard to seal the deal for five regiments of S-400 Triumf missile systems for India during Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman visit to Moscow next week. The negotiations have not made significant progress due to high price of Rs 39,500 crore quoted for the deal.
A new framework agreement is likely to be discussed for a long term with a provision a ten-year contract to make spares, upgrade weapon systems to be made in India. This could be about 500-crore rupees in business annually.
The other projects expected to be discussed are Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA) and Ka 226 Helicopters. Besides Russia has offered 21 MiG-29s which is already in service with the IAF, in three squadrons strength.
