C-295 Transport Aircraft

Negotiations for the procurement of C-295 transport aircraft from a sole bid by Airbus and Tata,   to replace the aging 56 Avro transport aircraft for Indian Air Force (IAF) has been completed. Under the deal, 16 will be built by a foreign Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Airbus and the remaining 40 to be built in the country by an Indian manufacturer TATA under transfer of technology. The deal needs clearance from the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) as there is a change from earlier parameters. The next DAC meeting is likely to be held in June and may consider the Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for 114 fighter jets and the fresh proposal for six mid-air Refuellers, besides other issues.
