The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has given approval for the procurement of Indian made Software Defined Radio (SDR Tactical) and Next Generation Maritime Mobile Coastal Batteries (Long Range) for the Indian Navy. The batteries have been developed and manufactured in India by Indo-Russia Joint Venture Company, M/s BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited and to be fitted with supersonic BrahMos surface-to-surface cruise missiles.
The SDR has been indigenously designed and developed by DRDO, BEL and Weapons Electronics System Engineering Establishment (WESEE). Understood a contract has been signed on August 8, 2019 with BEL for procurement of 260 SDRs of different types, valued at Rs 490 Crores (USD 70.64 Million), under the Indigenously Designed Developed and Manufactured (IDDM) category.
The DAC has also approved amendments to the Defence Procurement Procedure 2016 to simplify ‘Make’ process and ‘Offsets’.
